Here at “Short Claws, Healthy Paws” (SCHP), we want your dog’s trim experience to be as enjoyable as possible. It is important to understand that some dogs respond to nail care differently. We make every effort to make it a safe and positive experience. Owners will be notified if it is deemed their dog needs some “Training Trims” due to excessively unwilling/fearful/stressed behavior.
Please note: Forceful methods can cause dogs to have anxiety, and many resist nail care because of past experiences. We will train and condition the dog as much as is possible to trust, tolerate, and eventually be at ease with paw care. Nail trimming should be pleasant!

1. Fleas & Ticks: If your dog has an active infestation, we cannot allow the dog into the grooming area for their trim. We reserve the right to refuse service in the case of infestation in order to protect from transfer of fleas from one appointment to the next. If a dog that is suspected of having a flea or other parasite problem has been in the mobile grooming area, it is our policy to reschedule appointments immediately following to flea bomb the vehicle, along with the routine sanitization of all tools, and for the nail technician to change/shower, etc. If you suspect your pet has fleas or ticks, please inform us prior to the service. We will reschedule you to a time AFTER your dog has been properly treated and the infestation resolved.

2. Current Vaccinations: Puppies must have completed all their shots before the first trim. By signing this contract, owners attest their pets are current on Rabies, Distemper and Parvo-Virus. Proof of vaccination shall be provided upon request. We are required by Yakima County Health Department to verify Rabies vaccination is current.

3. Aggressive or Dangerous Pets: Owners MUST inform us if your dog(s) bites, has bitten, or is aggressive to people, other pets or specific grooming procedures. Humane muzzles may be used if necessary. Muzzling will not harm your dog and protects both the dog and the groomer. We reserve the right to refuse/stop services for aggressive dog(s) at any time before or during the trimming process. If it is deemed unsafe for the nail technician to work on your dog, our “Training Trims” package will be discussed. If you agree to the Training Trims package, that payment is taken in-full, and subsequent appointments set. If you do not wish to agree to the Training Trims, but technician has worked on your aggressive dog, whether able to successfully trim all toenails or not, the full service charge must be paid in full to SCHP.

4. Health or Medical Problems & Senior Pets: Grooming procedures can sometimes be stressful and can expose hidden medical problems or aggravate a current one during or after the experience. Because senior dogs and dogs with health problems have a greater chance of injury, the nail technician’s first objective for these dogs is safety, along with cleanliness and comfort. Please let us know of any health concerns your dog may have.
5. Panting, Drooling, & Similar Signs of Stress: Should your dog exhibit any signs of being overly stressed, we will stop the trim. You will be called into the vehicle to discuss what we are observing, and with you, determine if we should continue. Your dog’s well-being is our first priority.
6. Accidents: There is always the possibility an accident could occur. Trimming, Grinding and Filing equipment, though not “sharp,” could cause an abrasion, especially if a dog is resistant and yanking their paws away throughout the trim. Even though we use extreme caution and care in all situations, possible problems that could occur are “quicking” of nails, mild abrasions, etc. Every effort will be made to ensure your dog is trimmed as safely as possible. A dog that is fighting the trimming process very violently will be treated as stated in the “Aggressive Dog” section, as to not risk the dog injuring itself, pulling excessively on their collar, etc. In the case that an injury does occur to your dog during the trim, we will take care of the injury according to our safety and accident policy. And in the rare case of a serious injury, we will inform you immediately.

7. Payments & Cancellations: We use a card-reader service to accept Visa/Mastercard/debit/credit. The card-reader surcharges for the use of card will be added to your total due for service. (Total depends on transaction amount, but for example: $20 service + sales tax + card surcharge = $22.36. Note that this is for example only, and ACH and credit cards have slightly different surcharges, though not greatly different. These figures are intended for example only and not exact totals.) We do not add anything else to card surcharges, only what the card-reader service charges for use of card.
*Payment for trim services is due at the time of service. We accept cash, credit, and debit cards. Training Trims package is paid up-front with the first training trim.
*If you need to reschedule your appointment please contact us within 48 hours of the appointment, otherwise you may be charged for the appointment.
